Position
Helen is a Partner and heads up our Charities and Third Sector team in Edinburgh.
Helen’s experience includes setting up, merging, winding up charities; advising on governance, charity tax, and trading activities; advising grant giving charities; trustee training and dealing with a wide range of regulatory matters such as OSCR, HMRC, the Care Inspectorate and the Financial Conduct Authority related issues. In addition to fundraising, donations, trusts and endowments, using her private client experience, Helen advises on lifetime philanthropy and legacies/bequests.
As well as advising charities Helen has also been a trustee herself, with experience on the board of a national community-based youth work organisation and also as a governor of an independent school.

Helen is a member of the Charity Law Association and an affiliate member of the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Employment law specialists Ben Doherty and Kate Wyatt act for third sector clients on employment tribunal claims, disciplinary procedures and contract issues, while Lynsey Kerr acts for charitable trusts providing assistance with their establishment, reorganisation and winding up.
