Career
Dan Armstrong brings a unique international background and legal perspective to the Hogan Lovells Commercial Litigation department. After completing his legal studies in his native New Zealand, Dan qualified as a lawyer in New York, where he spent five years advising an international clientele on a varied range of business and legal matters. After relocating to London to pursue a career in litigation, Dan joined legacy Lovells in 2007, where he has focused on the resolution of complex, large-scale, multijurisdictional disputes.
Dan has played a key role on several of our largest cases before the English Commercial Court, including BTA vs. Ablyazov and Pinchuk vs. Bogolyubov and Kolomoisky, and has accumulated broad litigation and arbitration experience across many other jurisdictions, including New York, California, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Cyprus, the British Virgin Islands, and the Isle of Man. Dan has advised extensively on all stages of the dispute resolution process, including pre-action investigations, the aggressive pursuit of interim freezing orders, multijurisdictional disclosure projects, and preparing clients, and witnesses for trial in foreign and unfamiliar courts.
Today, Dan’s client-base consists principally of industry-leading companies, banks, and high-net worth individuals from Russia, Ukraine, and Commonwealth of Independent States member states. Through his extensive work in this region, Dan has built up a network of trusted local lawyers, legal service providers, and other experts, facilitating the swift selection of the right team for each case. Combined with Dan’s black-letter law, technical, and project management skills, this experience has translated into an impressive record of successfully achieving his clients’ objectives.
