Career

Yasmin Waljee OBE helped establish a pro bono culture within Hogan Lovells designing and delivering the firm’s pro bono practice. Yasmin is an international human rights lawyer and has advised on issues relating to compensation for victims of crime and terrorism.  She has worked on human rights issues relating to sexual violence in conflict.  She is undertaking a ground-breaking case in the New South Wales Court of Appeal to seek reparations on behalf of Yazidi women survivors of acts of genocide perpetrated by Islamic State fighters. Yasmin co-leads the firm's award-winning Social Impact Practice,  HL BaSE  https://www.hoganlovellsbase.com/ which advises purpose-led business and social enterprise focussed on  delivering impact on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Her appointment in 1997 as a legally qualified, full-time Pro Bono Director was the first appointment of its kind in Europe. Yasmin is the vice-chair of the advisory Board of Mosaic, the His Royal Highness Prince of Wales-led initiative to support young Muslims and their peers growing up in deprived areas whilst breaking down the barriers and suspicions with British Society.

She sits on the advisory panel to the United Kingdom's Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner and is an adviser to the UK’s Independent Commission on Counter-Extremism. In 2010, Yasmin was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Her Majesty Queen's New Year Honours list.
