Career
Ben has over 15 years’ experience of providing legal advice, 8 of which was working for the UK’s largest dairy company Arla Foods.
Ben helps clients to obtain, exploit and enforce all forms of intellectual property, as well as defending them from any claims of infringement. He also has a broad experience of handling a multitude of other commercial arrangements, from drafting and negotiation of many forms of contract to compliance with various legal requirements.
Ben has studied and worked in Germany, and was part of a pan-European legal team at Arla Foods handling cross-border matters daily.
Ben’s time in-house gave him valuable experience of life on the inside of a large international organisation. Immediately prior to joining Lupton Fawcett he was the sole in-house counsel for Arla Foods’ £2bn-turnover UK business advising on a vast range of matters from building the world’s largest fresh milk dairy to promoting leading brands such as Lurpak and Anchor, via a broad array of other commercial and intellectual property issues encountered when manufacturing and selling the goods you see on your supermarket shelves.
This knowledge has given Ben his first-hand experience of a broad range of commercial and legal issues faced by the food industry and other FMCG sectors, such as those relating to brand management, regulatory compliance, procurement, logistics, factory equipment, and retailer agreements.
Ben’s in-house role inevitably involved much more than just dispensing purely legal advice, and he was involved in many strategic and commercial discussions within the business. He now uses the benefit of that experience to put himself in the shoes of his clients and understand the commercial context when advising on potential actions and outcomes.
