Career

Dr. Al Bashir has had a distinguished career in both the private and public sectors. In his private practice, Dr. Al Bashir has extensive experience in corporate and commercial law including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and finance, private international law and privatization and regulatory governance. He has also spearheaded the drafting of key trade, economic and public sector reform initiatives including being the primary legal advisor on Jordan’s WTO accession, telecommunications reform, and the establishment and regulation of Aqaba Special Economic Zone.

Dr. Al-Bashir also represented private companies and sovereign states in a wide range of arbitration matters including BOT contracts, telecommunications regulatory structures, construction and development contracts before Jordanian and regional arbitration fora, the International Chamber of Commerce - International Court of Arbitration (ICC), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in addition to being named by the Government of Jordan as a conciliator to the ICSID.

Position in the Government of Jordan

Dr. Al-Bashir has held several cabinet positions in the Jordanian Government. Dr. Al-Bashir has currently appointed by H.M King Abdullah II as a Member of Economic Policy Council.

Before recently re-joining IBLAW, he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition, he has served as the Minister of Justice, Minister of State for Government Performance, Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs, and Minister of Industry and Trade, he was also appointed as by H.M King Abdullah II as a Member of the House of Senates on Nov. 2010 till Oct. 2011.
