Position

Clare was called to the Bar in 1974 and joined Number 1 Chambers, Fountain Court, where she developed a general common law practice, with an emphasis on family law and crime. She continued her legal career in South Africa and New York before returning to the Birmingham Bar and joining St Philips. She now specialises in family law and her practice and expertise encompass all aspects of this area of law. She regularly speaks at conferences and seminars organised by St Philips’ family group, and she contributes to the family law newsletter and ebulletin.

Clare practises in matrimonial finance, including financial remedies on divorce, cohabitation, TOLATA, Schedule 1 Children Act 1989 applications and Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 work. Clare has considerable experience with high-net-worth individuals and is comfortable with complicated financial cases involving accounts and financial statements.

In the field of public law, Clare acts for parents, local authorities, children’s guardians and extended family members. She often acts for clients with learning difficulties, including those represented by the official solicitor. She is regularly instructed in complex care proceedings involving physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Clare’s private law children practice deals with issues of residence, contact, relocation overseas, abduction and parental responsibility.

In her Court of Protection work, Clare represents young adults, adults and the elderly and also acts for Local Authorities under whose care such persons are placed.
