Career

Nataliia Isakhanova has been practicing law for over 20 years, specializes in international trade, antitrust and competition law, corporate law, M&A, and foreign investments, and holds a Ph.D. (International Law).

Nataliia has extensive experience representing clients in major projects across various sectors, including manufacturing, oil and gas, commercial, agriculture, retail, and telecommunications, both in Ukraine and abroad.

She advises Ukrainian and international clients on various issues related to international trade regulation, trade investigations, WTO law, antitrust and competition law, corporate law, and investment activities.

Legal Academic Expertise

Nataliia has been repeatedly invited as an independent expert. Such projects include:

Collaboration with leading EU lawyers, at the World Bank's request, in preparing reports analyzing the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with WTO agreements, as well as proposals to align Ukrainian legislation with WTO standards and requirements; Author of the Concept for the Ukrainian Center for Foreign Investment Promotion, along with relevant recommendations for regulatory support of the Center (grant from the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands); At the request of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, participated in the development of the draft National Export Strategy for 2016-2020 and the Action Plan for its implementation; Led a project to develop proposals for reforming Ukraine's customs and currency legislation and amending the Law of Ukraine "On Foreign Economic Activity" regarding the application of special sanctions to foreign economic activity entities (part of the USAID Leadership in Economic Management program); Participated in a working group preparing amendments to Ukrainian trade protection legislation (Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine); Served as an independent expert in the National Consultations on the Development of Sectoral and Cross-Sector Export Strategies of Ukraine; Adviser to the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (Georgia) on foreign investment and trade (http://www.ajarainvest.ge/); Participated in the working group on the preparation of an Impact Assessment Analysis for a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Ukraine and Turkey (Chemonics International Inc./USAID); Academic advisor and panelist at the National Moot Court Competitions on WTO Law, co-organized by ELSA Ukraine and Sergii Koziakov & Partners; Author and academic advisor for the online course on WTO Law.

Publications

Author of scientific works (articles and report theses), published in international and national professional publications including Legal Newspaper, Legal Practice, Getting the Deal Through, International Trade Expert Guide, Global Trade and Customs Journal, and others; Coauthor of numerous educational and methodological materials for students of the International Law Department at the  Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Member of the Ukrainian National Bar Association; Member of the Ukrainian Bar Association, Committee on International Trade Law, and Committee on Antitrust & Competition Law; Elected to the Board of the Committee on International Trade Law of the Ukrainian Bar Association; Elected as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Trade Law of the Ukrainian Bar Association; Elected as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Export-Import Activities of the Chinese Commerce Association; Member of the Strategic Alliance for WTO and Trade Remedies Law and Practice (SAWTR). This international group brings together leading practitioners in trade law. The group includes lawyers and trade experts from Canada, China, Colombia, the EU, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and Vietnam. Membership is limited to one representative from each specified jurisdiction; Attorney at Law (Certificate was issued in 1997 by the Bar Council of the Kyiv region).

Education

Master's degree in law and an English translator from the  Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.  After graduation, Nataliia Isakhanova defended her doctoral thesis and earned a Ph.D. in International Law.
