About

In just one decade, Lane IP has developed into a substantial top tier firm with offices in multiple countries including the UK, Ireland and China. The firm provides expert and highly focused commercial advise in all areas of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on trade marks and designs, from inception through to clearance and enforcement. As well as representation before the UK Intellectual property Office, the WIPO and the EUIPO, the firm’s multi-jurisdictional presence extends its reach to other key IP markets, including China and the emerging economies of the Middle East.

Giving the firm its name is founder Steve Lane who co manages the practice with Natalie Clare. Matthew McAleer has risen through the internal ranks to partner and has been joined by Jandan Aliss. To add to the 'home grown' talent, the firm has recruited three senior Chartered Trade Mark Attorneys, Mark Hickey, Steven Jennings and Philip Harris. This heavyweight line up compliments the developing skillset provided by a number of other qualified and part qualified attorneys, including senior associates Michael Green, Robert Snell and Caroline Phillips.

This depth of experience allows the firm to excel in many areas over and above the core offerings of searching, filing and enforcement, including licensing, monetisation, contractual and transactional matters and customs recordals and seizures. Clients can depend on the Lane IP attorneys and accredited litigators to steer them through the whole myriad of IP issues, always mindful of their commercial objectives and always anticipating the future direction of their clients’ businesses.

Collectively, the Lane IP team act for a litany of A-listers, each of whom continues to enjoy a personalised and bespoke service, which reaches far beyond traditional trade mark searching, filing and prosecution. These include The Premier League, Universal Music, Charlotte Tilbury, Omnicom, Unilever and World Rugby to name but a few. The firm offers a truly holistic service reaching into the fields of online brand protection, investigation and domain name management, functions that are often outsourced by their competitors but are provided internally at Lanes by experienced experts in these fields through the FASTLANE and IMPERACOM platforms.

The firm's office in China and, more recently, the Middle East, means clients can rely on true local expertise in tackling the challenging and increasingly sophisticated world of counterfeiting, be this by way of pre action evidence gathering and investigations, or by way of litigation and seizures.

The result is that to the benefit of its clients Lane IP has greater control, visibility and speed in dealing with the full spectrum of IP protection and enforcement where many other practices would be waiting on outsourced services. The firm is able to work up seamless strategies for tackling all the challenges faced by IP owners in the post pandemic world, where commerce has increasingly moved online, and infringers develop increasingly sophisticated techniques to avoid detection. Furthermore, with its own offices and a wider well-established network of associates, there are very few parts of the world that Lane IP is not able to cover. Lane IP attorneys can directly handle trade mark and design matters in China, the EU, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, including clearance, filing and enforcement, with well-established strengths in the emerging fields of online piracy and take downs.

Lane IP is now a truly global firm with an unrivalled technical and geographical reach.
