Head of the Business Law Department at Kopec & Zaborowski (KKZ). Attorney at law.
Joanna Czekaj specializes in transactions and corporate cases. She helps companies from the most important sectors of the economy, energy, shipbuilding and defense. Joanna conducted negotiations on key projects for Poland’s interests with foreign partners. Joanna is an advisor to the management board members and the managerial staff. She advises on the matter of purchasing and sale of shares and stocks, businesses and estates. She represents clients in the pre-litigation and court proceedings. Her areas of practice are: commercial law, corporate law, negotiations, investment processes, investment and real estate markets.
Career
Head of the Business Law Department at Kopec & Zaborowski (KKZ), an Attorney-at-law and a Master of Laws (LL.M.). Joanna has over 10 years of experience in the field of providing comprehensive support for business owners, which has given her a broad knowledge of economic law, including detailed knowledge of commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, combating unfair competition and commercial real estate law.
In her career she has been dealing with complex commercial disputes, concerning, inter alia, fulfilment of contracts, the responsibilities of members of the governing bodies of limited companies and corporate and investment disputes. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. She was a member of the University of Warsaw Academic Legal Counselling Service between 2008 and 2010. Joanna also has extensive practical experience in managing law firms and assisting corporate clients in Spain. During her LL.M. studies in Barcelona, she completed a year-long internship at Saumell & Vallejo, a law firm in Barcelona and a member of the European Law Firm network.
In recent years, she has been involved in the implementation of many important projects for the Polish defence industry. Joanna is also a qualified specialist in creating holding structures for companies. As the Polish law regulations concerning holdings are minimal, the creation of corporate groups and cooperation contracts between them requires much creativity and superb knowledge of the economic regulations. In addition to her hands-on legal practice, Joanna was a speaker at many training courses in the field of commercial law.
She took an active part in the works of the expert team on the concern law, which resulted in the project of the amendment of the Act – Commercial Companies Code and some other acts.
For years she has been engaged in various social and academic innitiatives. During the years 2008-2010 she’d been a member of the Legal Advice Office of the University of Warsaw. Judge at the MOOT Competition held at the University of Warsaw. She also actively cooperates within the project of the Noble Gift of the Lawyers. Initiator of the numerous charity actions in the KKZ Law Firm.
