Mr. Monaghan advises international and domestic clients on a variety of issues, including tech transactions, mergers & acquisitions, software licensing, data privacy, venture capital, private equity, corporate governance and labor and employment.

In addition to his practice at Lee International, Patrick serves as Chief Legal Officer (CLO) at SADA Systems, a leading app development, data storage and Cloud migration services company in North Hollywood, CA.  From his twin bases in southern California and Seoul, Patrick serves as the “tip of the spear” for Lee International’s growing trans-Pacific business technology practice, and provides real-time service for US-based clients, a critical competitive advantage for those with key business interests in both Asia and the West Coast.  Patrick also serves as an outside (independent) director for two leading Korea-based tech companies, Metaps Plus (a leading mobile payments, mobile e-commerce and Blockchain development company) and Baum Inc. (developer of the premier power diagnostic tools in the electronic design automation (EDA) industry).  An expert in critical tech Board issues like data privacy and cybersecurity for software, semiconductor and data storage companies, Patrick is a ranking member of the National Association of Corporate DIrectors (NACD) and the American College of Corporate Directors (ACCD).

Prior to commencing an in-house career in technology two years ago as CLO of Anoto Inc.  (ANOT), a NASDAQ-listed traded global tech company based in Europe, Patrick spent nearly twelve years as a senior foreign attorney at Kim & Chang in Seoul.  He developed a reputation for candor, creativity and client service, and was well known as a speaker and author on legal and business topics.  Patrick was a regular author of op-ed pieces on legal matters in the Korea Times and JoongAng Ilbo, as well as a frequent speaker at the American Chamber of Commerce, the Seoul Rotary Club, TBS Radio, the In-House Counsel Congress and various other events and forums.  He contributed the antitrust and competition law chapter to Korean Business Law, the first-ever English language textbook of Korean law, and taught courses in corporate finance and law at Ewha Womans University and the KAIST Graduate School of FInance.

Prior to his legal career, Patrick was a technology investment banker at Citigroup Global Markets in New York and Hong Kong, specializing in M&A and capital markets advisory.  Patrick also served with distinction as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy, including a tour of duty at the United Nations/Combined Forces Command in Seoul.
