Group Litigation

Position

Tom has significant experience in group litigation and as a result, he, along with 3 partners, launched Lanier, Longstaff, Hedar and Roberts LLP in 2022, a new UK law firm specialising in group litigation claims. Over the past year, Tom has been heavily involved in investigating and preparing the talcum powder claim and the Renault diesel emissions claim, in addition to other claims which have yet to be released into the public.

As a demonstration of Tom’s expertise, he has been instructed on several major group litigation claims in recent years, including numerous emissions group actions such as Volkswagen, Volkswagen 2, and Mercedes, and was also previously instructed on the group litigation which followed the collapse of Fundão Dam in the state of Minas Gerais, on behalf of local businesses in Brazil who had suffered significant loss and devastation as a result of the actions of the large Australian mining company, BHP Billiton.

Tom has a broad commercial practice, with experience in litigation at all stages, from pre-action through to trial, as well as in appeals in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

He regularly appears in the High Court in complex and high-value cases, and often against more senior Counsel.

Tom also has experience in arbitration, including in disputes administered by LCIA, SIAC, and ad hoc rules, often with a substantial international dimension.
