Dale Bampton

Career

Dale is a leading junior counsel at the Sydney and Brisbane Bar. She specializes in complex class actions, large-scale commercial litigation, and competition and consumer law. She has been recognised as a recommended junior counsel in commercial litigation in Doyle’s Guide.

Dale has been involved in numerous high profile class actions, including for the State of Queensland in the Queensland Floods class action; for shareholders in a claim against AWB for its conduct during the UN Oil for Food program, and for DePuy and Johnson & Johnson in a class action brought by patients regarding the design of hip implants. Dale is presently briefed in a number of class actions, including for the class in the Queensland Energy Class Action, for the class in the Transurban Toll Class Action, and for a number of respondents in a class action brought in relation to the sale of cryptocurrency.

Dale also specialises in complex litigation and competition and consumer matters. In 2021, she acted for Lorna Jane defending a claim brought by the ACCC. She was recently briefed by Queensland Treasury in relation to the judicial review of the Treasurer’s decision to declare DBCT Management in relation to infrastructure access rights. In 2019, she was junior counsel in a long-running dispute in the Supreme Court of Queensland between multiple mining entities in relation to a joint venture agreement. She has been briefed in a number of major consumer cases, including ACCC v Optus (and its appeal). Dale has worked on key competition cases, including for Emirates and Singapore airlines in cartel claims brought by the ACCC.

Prior to being called to the Bar, Dale specialised in class actions as a solicitor at Maurice Blackburn, in the firm’s major projects and class actions division.

Dale is regularly involved in public interest work with Legal Aid, including migration matters (recently succeeding in a matter, unled, before the Full Federal Court regarding the interpretation of a new provision of the Migration Act), and matters against the police for false imprisonment and battery.
