Career

Mr.Chemás Jaramillo began his professional activities as Magistrate Assistant of the Council of State in 1987 and then, as Legal Advisor of the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia between 1987 and 1990. He has represented many entities of the Republic of Colombia as Legal Counsel in its restructuring, including: The Colombian National Railway Company (1988-1992), Puertos de Colombia company (1990-1992), the National Social Security and Health System of Colombia (1989-1990) and the National Electricity System (1992).

Since 1993, Jorge Chemás has dedicated himself to his private practice, as an external advisor to numerous national and international companies, in multiple infrastructure, hydroelectric and thermoelectric projects. Mr.Chemás actively leads his firm and is recognized for his thoroughness and successful representation in important and complex arbitration disputes (of national and international profile) that have taken place before the Administrative Litigation Jurisdiction of Colombia.

Jorge Eduardo Chemás Jaramillo with more than 40 years of professional experience is the founder of Chemás & Asociados. Attorney Chemás Jaramillo graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Externado University of Colombia located in Bogotá.

He obtained his Master´s degree in Public Law (Diplôme D’études Approfondie de Droit Constitutionnel et Liberté Publique) from the University of Pantheon Sorbonne - Paris 1. He specialized in Administrative Law (Diplôme Supérieur en Droit Administratif de L’université) in the same University and in Political Sciences (Diplôme Approfondie D’études Politiques Comparatives) from the University Pantheon Assas – Paris 2. He was granted an observership in Comparative Law at New York University (NYU). Since 1987, has been professor of Administrative Law and State Procurement at the Faculty of Law of the Externado University of Colombia.
