Career

Jorge García-Merlos is an experienced corporate lawyer with a distinguished background in international diplomacy, having served as Consul and First Secretary at the Embassy of Guatemala in Panama and participated in various international missions with the Organization of American States (OAS).

Jorge’s legal practice focuses primarily on corporate law, encompassing commercial, civil, tax, and international matters, with a particular emphasis on family-owned businesses. He advises multinational entities across industries such as beverages, food, and technology, providing strategic counsel to minimize legal risks and deliver solutions for complex business transactions.

Jorge also serves as legal advisor to companies in the real estate and construction sectors, where he designs strategies to navigate complex legal challenges and protect his clients’ interests.

In addition to his corporate practice, Jorge is actively involved with international entities, including embassies, consulates, and commercial representations accredited in Guatemala. His experience also extends to civil, commercial, and administrative litigation, and he is a skilled mediator, focused on resolving conflicts through amicable solutions.

Jorge García-Merlos graduated from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in 2005 with a law degree. He holds a Postgraduate degree in International Trade and multiple advanced degrees, including a Master’s in Negotiation, Mediation, and Arbitration in International Trade, a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), and a Master’s in Finance. Additionally, he has completed coursework for a Doctorate in Tax Law and Commercial Law.
