Expertise and Practice

Adam Greaves is a leading commercial litigation and arbitration practitioner who focuses principally on cross-border disputes. Adam’s expertise includes post M&A claims, shareholder disputes, civil fraud and asset tracing claims, and professional negligence. In the past 30 years Adam has worked on some of the largest fraud cases brought in the commercial court in London. Adam also advises clients on the Bribery Act 2010 and has worked on investigations brought by the US DOJ or the SEC under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Adam has worked with clients in many jurisdictions around the world and has particular experience working with clients in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, cooperating with leading local law firms in those countries. Adam travels frequently to Eastern Europe and Central Asia and has spoken many times at conferences there. Adam was a partner in the London office of two US law firms for many years and as a consequence has worked for a number of US clients, travelling extensively around the US on business during his career.

Industry sectors Adam has worked with include insurance, banking, investment, metals, telecommunications, diamond manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, energy, real estate investment and professional services.

Project Highlights

Represented a high net worth individual on an LCIA arbitration concerning the control of a Russian company. Represented a fish and conch farm on an ad hoc international arbitration against a foreign government on breach of contract, tort and real estate claims and defamation, for a value in excess of $100m. Represented a global medical device company on the effects of US sanctions on its joint venture agreements with a Russian oligarch and advising on bringing an arbitration claim. Represented shareholders on a $400m claim in relation to ownership of a foreign mobile telephony company in Afghanistan, involving the American intelligence services, which was brought using litigation funding and after-the-event insurance. Represented a Central Asian bank on the recovery of a $60m debt in which the security provided to the bank was fraudulent including obtaining worldwide freezing orders, in both the Commercial Court and by arbitration in the Swiss Chamber of Commerce. Represented two telecommunications companies on a $2bn fraud claim, including asset tracing and recovery of assets in over 20 countries. Represented a high net worth Middle Eastern defendant on a Commercial Court dispute with a Middle-Eastern royal family involving allegations of fraud, value $250m, involving criminal complaints, worldwide freezing orders and overseas proceedings.

Career

Prior to joining LK, Adam was a partner in international law firms in the City of London, including two US law firms and most recently at CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP.
