Career

Keith has specialised in legal costs since 1990 when he was trained by a major London law firm.  He gained particular experience in solicitor-client disputes, commercial litigation and trust and probate work.  He is an exceptional costs lawyer because of this length and breadth of experience.

He has worked on high value and complex cases for leading London and national firms.  He has also worked for government departments and FTSE100 PLCs.

Keith gained further experience in solicitor-client disputes, high profile matrimonial work and advocacy.  At one solicitor-client dispute he was the advocate at a 10 day trial, successfully defending the costs of the administration of an estate involving 26 farms.  Another case required 13 separate issues to be identified and costed individually.  He currently leads a team which specialises in personal injury and industrial disease claims.

He obtained Law Society accreditation for training courses provided to staff and clients on numerous occasions.  Since rights of audience were granted to costs lawyers, Keith has gone on the court record on behalf of solicitors firms lacking the experience required and occasionally he has acted for members of the public.

Recently Keith advised on highly contentious Solicitor-client disputes and appeared as an advocate in an client dispute not governed by the Solicitors Act.  He has given strategic advice to an international law firm coordinating litigation in several jurisdictions.  In 2024 he appeared as an advocate in the Privy Council and has worked on substantial costs claims in the Bahamas and Isle of Man.

Keith’s experience led him to additional responsibilities including speaking at the AVMA conference, In House Counsel conference and Legacy Labyrinth (sponsored by Withers LLP).  He has served on the professional council of costs lawyers, the Association of Costs Lawyers, when he oversaw the professional examinations.
