Career

Alejandro is the lead partner of the Dispute Resolution Practice at Alta Guatemala, with over 14 years of experience in litigation and arbitration. His practice specializes in commercial arbitration, civil and commercial litigation.

He regularly advises clients on complex disputes in the energy, oil, mining, insurance, bonding, construction, and telecommunications sectors, as well as corporate and shareholder disputes.

Recently, he has advised clients in international arbitrations under the rules of the ICC, ICDR/AAA, CRECIG and CENAC, as well as in Arbitration Centers of El Salvador and Honduras, and in ad-hoc proceedings under UNCITRAL Rules.

Alejandro is frequently appointed as an arbitrator in proceedings arising from technology and software contracts, shareholder agreements, construction and infrastructure projects, banking, financial, and telecommunications disputes

Additionally, he has dedicated part of his practice to debt and asset recovery, as well as criminal litigation in white-collar proceedings and infringement of intellectual property rights.

Alejandro has also served as counsel for mining projects with investments of more than US$2.8 billion in Guatemala and hydroelectric projects (exceeding 600 MW) in constitutional actions related to human rights and compliance with ILO Convention 169. He has been an advisor in the implementation of consultation processes under said Convention and on ESG matters.

Currently, Alejandro is a member appointed by Guatemala to the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC (term: 2024-2027) and serves as the President of the Guatemalan Arbitration Association. He is also a full professor of General Process Theory and Civil and Commercial Procedural Law at the Universidad del Istmo.
