Career

Ignacio is a senior associate at ALTA Guatemala. He specializes in the practice areas of energy, infrastructure and projects, banking and finance, transactional, and arbitration.

His practice and experience in energy, infrastructure and projects spans all phases of project development. In generation projects, he has advised multiple clients on long-term tenders, negotiation of long-term out-of-bid PPAs, risk and bankability analysis, negotiation of EPC O&M contracts, long-term leases and other material contracts, financing and closing. financial, development, operation, regulatory issues and resolution of disputes arising from energy supply contracts. Ignacio regularly advises various electricity market agents on regulatory issues, negotiation of PPAs, land and permit issues, among others.

In addition to energy projects, his experience includes advising on the most relevant projects in Guatemala in the following areas: public and private road infrastructure, public transportation, public concessions, port services and contracting of public services before different state entities. He has advised multilateral entities on bankability and viability analysis for large-scale infrastructure projects.

Ignacio has participated in local and cross-border transactions such as acquisitions and sales of groups with presence in various countries, shareholder agreements with multi-jurisdictional corporate structures, purchase and sale of assets in some of the most relevant industries in Guatemala. His M&A experience includes relevant transactions in the areas of power generation, heavy industry, regulated financial entities, and hydrocarbons.

Finally, he has experience acting as a party lawyer and also as an arbitrator in local and international arbitrations in disputes arising from different industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy, hydrocarbons, administrative contracts, corporate conflicts and, during recent years, he has served as member and president of the Board of Directors of CRECIG, one of the main arbitration centers in Guatemala. Likewise, he has participated in litigation before international courts.
