Sze Jia began his career in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group of Malaysia’s largest Law Firm. In 2015, he transitioned to a Boutique Firm founded by the former Head of Dispute Resolution from the same leading Law Firm, joining as a Senior Associate. Over the next seven years, he worked closely with the principal, refining his expertise, before departing in September 2018.

Sze Jia is now the Managing Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution at Izad Kazran & Co (IKC), where he leads the Firm’s largest practice group. He also heads the China Desk, advising clients on cross-border matters between Malaysia and China.

Sze Jia has been recognised as one of Asia's Super 50 Dispute Lawyers 2024 by Asian Legal Business and as one of the LexisNexis® 40 UNDER 40 2023 Asia Pacific's Rising Stars. He possesses extensive experience across a broad spectrum of disputes, including arbitration, banking and financial disputes, construction, corporate, contractual and commercial matters, defamation, energy, fraud, insurance and reinsurance, insolvency, oil and gas, and tort.

He represents a diverse client base, including local and international developers, manufacturers, major corporations, statutory bodies, universities, and private clients. Sze Jia serves as the lead retained counsel for a Chinese developer and its Malaysian entities, expertly managing disputes related to construction, contracts, commercial matters, fraud, and employment issues, currently overseeing more than 80 cases, with a cumulative quantum exceeding RM100 million.

Sze Jia frequently handles complex claims and disputes requiring urgent forensic investigations and the securing of freezing orders. He has also recently completed a Certificate in Law and Sustainability from the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford, equipping him to advise on ESG-related matters.

In addition to his role at IKC, Sze Jia serves as an Arbitrator for the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the Borneo International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (BICAM). He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and holds a Certificate of Law and Sustainability from the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. Sze Jia is also a Commissioner for Oaths and a Member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.

Sze Jia is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and holds a Certificate of Legal Practice from the Legal Profession Qualifying Board Malaysia. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.
