Career

Güneş Ünüvar possesses specialized knowledge on international dispute resolution and, in particular, on investment treaty arbitration. He advises clients across a range of sectors on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters of public international law.

Güneş is a Senior Research Fellow at Max Planck Institute for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law in Luxembourg as of February 2021 and is Of Counsel at Özgür Ünüvar Bakiler. He was a Carlsberg Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow at iCourts (2017-2021) and has taught several courses on economic law and constitutional law at the University of Copenhagen, Uppsala University, and the University of Edinburgh. He has extensive knowledge and experience on investor-State disputes, having engaged in several disputes as counsel and advisor.

He is currently a member of the Academic Forum for the Working Group Ill meetings under the auspices of UNCITRAL, addressing investor-State dispute settlement reform. He has previously held Visiting Researcher positions at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels and Columbia Law School in New York City.
