Career

Axel Buhr specializes in international arbitration and state court litigation cases.

Since 2009, Axel Buhr has participated in numerous arbitration proceedings as arbitrator, counsel, and secretary. Axel Buhr is experienced in handling cases under SCAI, ICC, VIAC and ad hoc arbitration rules.

In addition to his arbitration work, Axel Buhr represents clients in state court litigations, in particular international commercial disputes.

Axel Buhr holds bar admissions in Germany (Karlsruhe, 2009) and Switzerland (Zurich, 2013).

In 2003, Axel Buhr graduated from the University of Heidelberg (Germany). After his traineeship (Referendariat) at the district court of Constance (Germany), Axel Buhr passed the German bar exam in 2005.

From 2006 to 2009, Axel Buhr worked as a research assistant at the University of Lucerne and specialized in conflicts of law. In 2009, he received a doctorate from the University of Lucerne. In 2010, Axel Buhr started teaching at the University of Lucerne. He regularly publishes on Swiss arbitration and procedural issues.

From 2009 until 2017, Axel Buhr was a member of the dispute resolution team of an international law firm in Zurich. In 2017, Axel Buhr joined Gabriel Arbitration as a partner.

Since 2017, Axel Buhr was repeatedly recognized as a “future leader” in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal and Global Arbitration Review.
