Career

Simon graduated from Warwick University with an honours degree in Law in 1989. He joined MFB in 2007, having qualified at another specialist shipping firm in London in 1992. Simon works on both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Simon acts in contentious matters for shipowners, operators and their agents and insurers worldwide across a wide range of sectors including dry bulk, liner and tanker markets. With extensive experience in ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding and offshore disputes, he has also worked on pollution, collision and salvage/GA cases, piracy, legal seizure and sanction disputes as well as the full spectrum of charter and bill of lading claims from off-hire and demurrage to safe port and cargo claims.

On the non-contentious side, Simon is involved in drafting many types of shipping contracts and he acts in relation to the sale and purchase of companies, fleets and individual vessels, joint ventures and pool contracts. He works frequently on vessel sale and purchase, not only for new and second-hand commercial tonnage but also for superyachts. He also acts for banks in connection with ship finance.

Simon is a Supporting Member of the LMAA and is a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500 2019 rankings.
