Career
Jānis is partner at CersJurkāns and the head of the firm’s Corporate and M&A practice group. He is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of accumulated experience in the fields of Corporate and M&A, dispute resolution, real estate and construction, and insolvency and restructuring.
Corporate and M&A. Jānis has extensive experience in a wide variety of M&A and private equity transactions, ranging from national to cross-border deals. He typically represents companies, shareholders, directors and private equity investors in various fields.
Dispute Resolution. Jānis is experienced litigator specializing in commercial and cororate disputes. He frequently represents clients in proceedings before the Economic Affairs Court, a specialised court for commercial disputes. Jānis is regularly engaged by directors, shareholders and other stakeholders in situations of a deadlock, financial distress of a company, litigation related to take-overs and disputes concerning corporate governance. He has demonstrated the ability to deliver favorable outcomes for his clients in complex shareholder disputes as well as being able to resolve the disputes quickly out-of-court.
Insolvency and Restructuring. Jānis expertise extends also to restructuring and insolvency matters. Himself being insolvency administrator for many years, Jānis has developed in depth understanding of the insolvency and restructuring landscape. He assists clients that face financial difficulties, as well as creditors and other stakeholders such as management board in every aspect of restructuring and insolvency.
With a comprehensive understanding of these practice areas, Jānis can provide strategic advice and representation, ensuring that clients receive exceptional service and effective solutions.
