Barrister (Year of Call: 2016)
Career
Joseph has experience across all of Chambers’ core practice areas, including contractual disputes, debt recovery, enforcement, financial services, insolvency, landlord and tenant, personal injury and the sale of goods.
Joseph previously worked as an advocate for LPC Law, appearing in over 1,000 County Court hearings across the country. He completed Pupillage with the Crown Prosecution Service, during which time he closely shadowed senior colleagues, including Queen’s (now King's) Counsel, in trials relating to a variety of offences, ranging from murder to fraud and economic crime. Joseph was subsequently employed as an in-house Barrister at the CPS. Throughout this period, he provided charging advice to the police, while frequently appearing in the Magistrates’ Court and the Crown Court.
Since joining Chambers, Joseph has developed a particular expertise in financial services. He is regularly instructed by major banks and financial institutions and undertakes a broad range of advisory, drafting and court work in this area. He has established a depth of experience in possession claims and the enforcement of credit and related agreements.
Joseph frequently appears in court in claims brought under the ‘unfair relationship’ provisions of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, including those involving secret and half-secret commissions. He has a wealth of experience at trial and interlocutory hearings in a large volume of claims arising from the sale of payment protection insurance, including issues relating to compromise, limitation, liability and quantum. Joseph has successfully obtained multiple costs orders on the basis of ‘unreasonable behaviour’ in small claims trials, pursuant to CPR r.27.14(2)(g).
He has been commended by clients for his meticulous preparation, attention to detail and robust advocacy.
