Career

Nick has over 20 years’ experience advising on public law, the promotion of major infrastructure projects, and related planning and environmental law issues. He is also one of only a dozen active parliamentary agents, and as such is authorised to promote and oppose hybrid and private bills in Parliament.

He has advised on a multitude of development consent orders, transport and works act orders, harbour revision orders and compulsory purchase orders, for bodies as varied as National Grid, Network Rail, Transport for London and others.

As a parliamentary agent, he has promoted private bills for banks, cemeteries, local authorities and navigation authorities, and acted on the hybrid bills for Crossrail 1 and HS2.

Nick’s public and environmental law work includes long-term advice to the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales on issues ranging from fishery bye-laws to Brexit. He also regularly advises local authorities, including on the establishment of Transport for the North, Midlands Connect and England’s Economic Heartland.

Nick is a former barrister, and has appeared as an advocate before public inquiries and select committees.
