Career

After qualifying as a solicitor in 1996, Graeme developed advocacy skills as a specialist in criminal law. His experience as a magistrates’ court advocate led to a move to practising licensing law, which saw him join Poppleston Allen as a solicitor in February 2001.

He was made a partner and head of regulatory crime in April 2005. Focus is on crimes ancillary to licensing, covering: serving alcohol (underage sales and drunkenness); health and safety; food safety; and noise nuisance.

Graeme advises a diverse client base spread across the whole of England and Wales and has developed a niche for working with restaurant and pub chains. For example his national restaurant clients include: PizzaExpress, Yo!, Ask Italian, Zizzi, Byron Hamburgers and Pho.

He is a legal advisor to the National Union of Students (NUS), and speaks about licensing and regulated crime at their annual conference. He is also involved with the Association of Multiple Licensed Retailers (ALMR) Late Night Division.
