Suraj joined Poppleston Allen in April 2011, following which he trained and qualified as a Solicitor with the firm in July 2014.

Suraj acts for a wide range of clients from individuals to operators with multiple sites including major pub and restaurant chains, wine retailers, hotels, late night operators, developers and large independents.

He advises clients on various aspects of licensing law including acquisition of premises, licensing aspects of development work including reviewing and drafting the relevant licensing clauses in Agreements and Leases, new premises licence applications and variations as well as representing clients at contested hearings.

He has dealt with complex matters surrounding late-night licensing, and achieved success in obtaining new premises licence and variations in towns and cities with a cumulative impact policy in place where there is a presumption to refuse such applications.  He has also been involved in licensing reviews and appeals.

Suraj is a regular contributor to the trades key national magazine. He is the author of various Poppleston Allen trade guides, articles and research surveys, including those on the Late Night Levy and councils which have adopted them, EMROs and Cumulative Impact Polices which have been referenced and published in the trade and national press.

Suraj graduated with a Law degree (LLB) from the University of King’s College London and obtained his Legal Practice Certificate at Nottingham Law School in 2010, receiving a Distinction
