Career

Emma Newman has been practicing family law since she qualified as a solicitor in 1999, building an extensive career within Surrey. After starting her career at a Surrey firm, she later became the Deputy Head of a successful family law department in a firm recognized by both Legal 500 and Chambers directories. Now, Emma is the Managing Partner of our Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset offices.

Emma advises on all aspects of family law, helping clients navigate separation, whether they are married, in a civil partnership, or unmarried. She has extensive experience dealing with complex financial disputes involving substantial income, capital, business and trust assets, and cases with international dimensions. She also handles child-related matters under the Children Act, including cases with complicating factors like mental health issues, substance abuse, and domestic violence, as well as specific issues and applications by grandparents.

Emma is a Resolution Accredited Family Law Specialist, with accreditations in Financial Provision and Children Law.

Education

Emma studied the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Law School after graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Law.  She qualified as a solicitor in 1999 at a Surrey firm and has continued to practice family law in Surrey ever since.

Leisure

Outside of her professional life, Emma enjoys a busy family life. She loves cooking, particularly baking and decorating cakes, and has a passion for foreign travel, going to the theatre, and appreciating art.
