Career

Mr Kato practices international sports law with his own work experiences at a sports agency in the U.S. He also represents clients in a wide variety of industries, such as real estate investment/securitization including REITs, project finance and other finance, renewable energy projects and general corporate matters.

He has been extensively involved in the sports industry, such as the representation of international athletes, legal counsel to sports teams and event organizers, negotiation of the sponsorship on both sides of corporations and sports organizations, providing advice to sports content/service providers in Web3/sports tech, and representation before the Court of Arbitration for Sport and other dispute resolutions and risk management.

Mr Kato joined Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu in 2011. After he graduated University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law (LL.M.) in 2017 with the Specialization in Entertainment, Media, and Intellectual Property Law, he worked for a sports agency in Los Angeles, supporting international athletes, planning sports events and negotiating sponsorships. He is admitted to the Japan Bar and the State Bar of California.
