Career

Chang Hoon Baek is an attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of corporate and M&A litigation, criminal defense litigation, insolvency and restructuring litigation, trade secret litigation, and banking and finance litigation.

Before joining Kim & Chang, Mr. Baek served in the judiciary for 17 years, as a judge at various District and High Courts. He also served as a professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court. During his tenure as a judge, he accumulated extensive experience in a wide range of criminal, civil and administrative cases involving corporations and individuals.

Mr. Baek has a broad practice in civil, administrative and criminal litigation at the firm. In his civil litigation practice, Mr. Baek has specialized in finance and securities-related regulation, intellectual property, hostile M&A, insolvency and corporate restructuring. As a criminal defense lawyer, Mr. Baek has dealt with the most high profile white collar crime cases in Korea.

Reflecting his experience as a judge in the Bankruptcy division at Seoul District Court, Mr. Baek is the author of “The Corporate Restructuring Law.” This book is considered as the most prestigious by lawyers and market participants alike.

In 2007, Mr. Baek was selected as one of the 12 best Lawyers in Korea by Chosun Daily Newspaper, and was appointed as the best distinguished litigator in Korea. He was also recognized as the Litigation and Investigations Lawyer of the Year at the Asia Legal Awards 2019 held by ALM.
