Career
Won Kim is an attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of intellectual property, with a focus on patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret. He also has extensive experience in the IT, entertainment and game industries.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kim has been actively involved in many civil and criminal cases relating to intellectual property and technical issues. In the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice, Mr. Kim assists clients on a broad range of matters, including IP strategy, licensing, negotiation, as well as regulatory issues. Mr. Kim also represents a wide range of companies in the IT, entertainment and game industries, specializing in regulations, licensing, establishment of new business operations in Korea and dispute/litigation.
Mr. Kim has an engineering background, having received B.Eng. from College of Mechanical Engineering, Seoul National University in 1995, and M.S. from Graduate School of Mechanical Engineering, Seoul National University in 1997. After passing the Korean Bar examination in 2001, he attended the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea for two years, and was awarded the Minister of Justice Prize, which is the second award of the Institute, in 2005.
Mr. Kim also received an LL.M. from University of San Diego School of Law in 2012. After receiving the LL.M., he worked at TMI Associates, a law firm located in Tokyo, Japan, for three months before returning to Kim & Chang.
