Career

Jung-Il Han is an attorney in the Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense, Anti-Corruption & Corporate Compliance, and Financial Regulation & Compliance Practices at Kim & Chang.

He has frequently dealt with high profile cases or highly complex cases in various areas by representing multiple global companies including top tier banking and financial institutions, and major US and Europe based technology and telecommunication companies. Through his eight-year-long prosecutor career and thirteen years of experience working as lawyer with both major Korean conglomerates and leading global companies based on his license to practice law in both Korea and California, he is especially recognized as the “go-to” lawyer for CEOs and in-house counsels of both domestic and multinational companies facing criminal investigations or related complex crises in Korea.

Recently, Mr. Han has also been actively involved in many high profile tax cases in the industrials and manufacturing in Korea. He has advised and represented private equity funds, corporate clients, and both overseas and domestic financial institutions in tax audits and tax appeals. With his notable achievements, highly experienced career and fluency in English, he was chosen as the Rising Star in the area of White Collar Crime in Korea, which was selected from the brightest young talents in 28 practice areas of law by Euromoney (2015-2016 Euromoney investor PLC). In 2023, he was recognized as the Best Lawyer selected by the Joong-Ang Daily and the Korean In-house Counsels Association (KICA) and was chosen as the Leading Lawyer in the area of White Collar Crime.

As a former prosecutor, Mr. Han received a Minister of Justice Commendation (2008) and a Public Prosecutor General Commendation (2010, “The 1st Awards of Prosecutor of the Year,” which was chosen out of leading 300 prosecutors by the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office in Korea).
