Career

Kevin L. Todd is a foreign attorney at Kim & Chang. He practices primarily in the areas of insurance, investment management, insolvency & restructuring, labor & employment, and international arbitration & cross-border litigation.

In the Insurance Practice, Mr. Todd assists clients on a broad range of matters, including the establishment, licensing, restructuring and dissolution of insurance branches, subsidiaries, brokerages and agencies, as well as assisting such institutions with ongoing regulatory compliance and control issues and audits by the Financial Supervisory Service.

As a member of the Investment Management Practice, Mr. Todd works with offshore investment management companies in connection with obtaining cross-border discretionary investment management and investment advisory licenses in Korea. Mr. Todd also advises clients in relation to the establishment of asset management companies and discretionary investment management companies, as well as on matters relating to the offering and distribution of public and private investment funds in Korea. Mr. Todd also has experience in assisting with the establishment of joint ventures between foreign and local asset management companies.

Mr. Todd also has extensive experience advising clients on issues relating to bankruptcy, company rehabilitation and workout proceedings, and has published extensively and spoken on such issues in a number of forums.

With respect to labor & employment law, Mr. Todd has advised companies on various employment and labor-related matters, including, but not limited to, employee benefits, employee discipline and termination, downsizing, and post-acquisition integration and restructuring. Given Mr. Todd's other areas of expertise, many of the employment and labor cases Mr. Todd has worked on have involved insurance companies, financial institutions or distressed companies.

As a member of the International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Practice, Mr. Todd has worked on numerous international commercial disputes for multinational companies and major institutions, including arbitrations under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board. Mr. Todd also advises in connection with cross-border litigation, often involving financial institutions.

Mr. Todd has co-authored various publications, including "Sale of Substantially All Assets Prior to Confirmation of Plan under Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code-Basic Legal Principle and Recent Cases" in Korean Journal of Insolvency Law (July 2010) and "Overhauling Korea's Insolvency Laws; Individual debtors first, corporate debtors next" in Global Insolvency & Restructuring Year Book 2004/05.

Mr. Todd received his J.D. from the James E. Beasley School of Law, Temple University in 2000 and a B.S. from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1993. He is admitted to the Connecticut and New York bars.
