Career

Jin Yeong Chung is a partner at Kim & Chang and leads the firm's International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Practice and Insolvency & Restructuring Practice.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Chung has successfully represented various foreign and domestic clients in numerous contentious disputes. He has represented clients in a wide range of disputes involving financial products, derivatives, corporate matters, M&A and competition, among others.

In particular, his advocacy of a foreign investor in an ICC arbitration proceeding against a governmental deposit insurance corporation led to an award of approximately KRW 3 trillion, which is one of the largest arbitral awards in Korean history. He has also advised many of the world’s largest corporations, creditors, as well as investors, on various insolvency and corporate restructuring-related matters in South Korea.

Mr. Chung has been called to serve on a number of Korean government committees, including the Mutual Savings Banks Evaluation Committee, the Commercial Banks Evaluation Committee and the Merchant Banks Evaluation Committee. Also, for almost 15 years he lectured on financial transactions at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea.

Mr. Chung received his LL.B. from Seoul National University College of Law in 1984 and received his LL.M. from Yale Law School in 1994. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a judge advocate in the Republic of Korea Air Force from 1986 to 1989.

He is admitted to practice law in Korea and in New York.
