Career

Sungjean Seo is a senior member of Kim & Chang’s International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Practice and Construction & Engineering Disputes Practice.

Ms. Seo specializes in international commercial arbitration, representing Korean and international clients in arbitrations conducted under the rules of the ICC, LCIA, LMAA, ICDR, and KCAB, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. She has experience in complex disputes arising out of a range of commercial contexts including joint ventures, distributorship relationships, and intellectual property. In recent years, Ms. Seo has concentrated her practice representing clients in the construction, power projects and shipbuilding sectors, in arbitrations seated in London, Paris, and Seoul. She also regularly advises clients in connection with cross-border litigation.

Before joining Kim & Chang, Ms. Seo practiced for several years with leading firms in New York, concentrating in the areas of complex cross-border finance and securities offerings. She also taught at the Michigan State University College of Law and at the Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University, Korea.

Ms. Seo received her J.D. from the School of Law at Columbia University where she served as head articles editor of the Human Rights Law Review. She is a member of the bar of the State of New York and speaks Korean and English.
