Syahdan Z. Aziz joined SSEK in 2005. He has been involved in numerous projects relating to mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas, energy and mining, and foreign investment.

In addition to his work in the energy and natural resources sector, Syahdan is experienced in all aspects of Indonesian labour and employment law. This includes advising corporate clients on severance matters, personnel policies and work rules, employment contracts, including contracts for foreign workers, secondment arrangements, labour disputes and social security programs. He is particularly active in advising companies on labour and employment matters in Indonesia’s energy and natural resources sector. Syahdan is the firm representative to the Employment Law Alliance, a global network of leading labor and employment lawyers.

Syahdan has been recognized as a leading practitioner for energy and natural resources, and projects and infrastructure.

Representative Matters

• Advised SunEdison, a US public company engaging in solar power business in developing a preferred corporate structure for its energy business in Indonesia and in preparations for PLN tenders.

• Advised Baywa Solar in relation to its proposed plan to established an Indonesian subsidiary engaging in solar power business, including solar power plan lease and equipment lease.

• Advised a Chinese engineering and research company on their participation in an aluminium smelter upgrading project owned by an Indonesian state-owned company.

• Acted for the IFC in preparing model documentation, including a model PPA and government guarantee, for the 2x1000 MW Central Java coal-fired IPP project.

• Acted as Indonesian counsel for Sinohydro Resources of China in establishing a joint venture company in Indonesia for the development of the Lasolo Hydropower Project.

• Acted as Indonesian counsel for Lanco International in an in-depth review and comment on a draft PPA for bidding purposes in relation to a 2x200 MW coal-fired steam IPP in East Java.

• Advised an Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas company on the acquisition of a petrochemical company.

• Acted for a Japanese petroleum company on fuel sale and storage agreements.

• Advised a French civil engineering company and a Chinese engineering and construction company on projects in Indonesia.

• Acted for a multinational drilling rig operator in a potential cooperation in Indonesia.

• Advised a global payments platform on termination issues in Indonesia.

• Advised a large Indonesian energy company on employment issues related to a contemplated M&A transaction.

• Assisted an oil and gas services company with expatriate employment issues.
