Career
Nurdin, who joined ABNR in 2000 and was made partner in 2012, focuses his practice on project finance & development, banking & finance, mergers & acquisitions (M&A), foreign direct investment (FDI) and aviation.
Recent highlights of his work include acting for Bank of China for its USD 153 million loan to finance a satellite procurement by PT Palapa Satelit Nusa Sejahtera; BNP Paribas for its USD 100 million loan to Ireland-based Wafu Aviation; and ABN Amro Bank for the First Amendment of its USD 200 million Uncommitted Facility Letter to PT Pertamina (Persero), which increased the facility to USD 400 million.
He also advised PT Badjradaya Sentranusa, the project company for the USD 310-million Asahan hydro power plant, on a change in its internal ownership structure.
He is currently busy on a ground-breaking “green/gender-aware” loan by an international financing institution to an Indonesian state-owned bank, the proceeds of which will be on-lent to women-owned businesses and green development projects.
In the M&A arena, he is presently representing the sellers in their planned disposal of a majority interest in a well-known Indonesian heavy-industry company to a local private-equity house. In addition, he is acting for a blue-chip European manufacturer of power-sector equipment for the sale of part of its Indonesian business to another European company.
A member of PERADI (Indonesian Advocates Association); AKHI (Association of Indonesian Legal Consultants); and HKHPM (Indonesian Capital Market Legal Consultants Association), Nurdin holds an LL.M in international business law from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
He also regularly lectures in project finance in the University of Indonesia’s master’s degree program in law.
Nurdin is ranked as a “Distinguished Practitioner” for banking & finance by Asialaw, and as a “Notable Practitioner” for capital markets by IFLR 1000, and is recommended for banking & finance, aviation and IT & telecoms by Legal 500 Asia Pacific.
