BKL Partner Kap-You (Kevin) KIM Appointed as President of KCAB International Arbitration Committee
Mr. Kap-You (Kevin) KIM, a senior partner at Bae, Kim & Lee
LLC (“BKL”), has been appointed as President of the International Arbitration
Committee of the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board (“KCAB”).
In an effort to enhance the role of the International
Arbitration Committee in response to the growing demand for arbitration under the
KCAB International Arbitration Rules, the KCAB has chosen leading experts in
international arbitration to serve as the next president and as new members of
the Committee. Mr. Kap-You (Kevin) KIM was named President of the Committee while
a distinguished group of international arbitrators including Mr. Christopher
Lau of Singapore, Professor Doug Jones AO of Australia, Dr. Michael Moser of
Hong Kong, and Professor Joongi Kim of Yonsei Law School, were appointed as new
members.
Kap-You (Kevin) KIM is a globally-recognized specialist in
international arbitration. A founder of BKL’s International Arbitration and
Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Kim is recognized as a pioneer of international
arbitration in Korea with stellar achievements in the field. He currently serves
as a Vice President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and Chair of
the Audit Committee of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration
(ICCA), a United Nations-accredited global non-governmental organization of the
world’s most prominent arbitration practitioners. Mr. Kim is also listed on the
Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment
Disputes (ICSID), among other notable arbitration centers around the world.
In response to his appointment, Mr. Kim commented as follows: “It
is a great honor to assume the role of President of the International
Arbitration Committee of the KCAB. Serving in that capacity, I will redouble my
efforts to contribute to the revitalization and development of international
arbitration in Korea.”
Established in 2002, BKL’s nternational Arbitration and Litigation Practice Group was the first practice
group in Korea to be dedicated solely to international arbitration and
litigation. Composed of approximately 30 professionals, the team has grown into
the largest and most experienced international practice in Asia, representing a
diverse mix of domestic and foreign clients in cross-border disputes in
jurisdictions all over the world.
