Position

Jason is a partner in our corporate & commercial group. He has wide experience of advising on public and private M&A, joint ventures, reorganisations and general corporate and commercial matters. He has a particular focus on cross-border transactions and matters. He is frequently active on M&A transactions involving Japanese companies and acts as advisor to a number of leading Japanese groups on their activities internationally.

Career

After completing his training at Simmons & Simmons, Jason qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and became a partner in 2006. From 2000 to 2003 he was on secondment to leading Japanese law firm TMI Associates in Tokyo. During his secondment, Simmons & Simmons and TMI Associates entered into a qualified joint venture, forming the largest alliance between a major, established Japanese law firm and a major international firm. Jason became responsible for the firm's Tokyo office in November 2008. He also remains active supporting clients in Europe. Asia Pacific Legal 500 notes Jason as an "excellent technical lawyer with an understanding of strategy and negotiating technique" and recommends him as "experienced at handling cross-border M&A matters". Jason is co author of the Japan section of Kluwer Law International’s Corporate Acquisitions & Mergers. He is a fluent Japanese speaker, has passed the highest level in the Japan Foundation Japanese Proficiency Test and won the 1998 JETRO sponsored Sir Peter Parker Spoken Business Japanese Awards. Jason was a founding committee member and is a former secretary of the British Japanese Law Association, which in 2009 received the Ambassador's Commendation from the Embassy of Japan for its contribution in promoting exchange between Japan and British lawyers.
