Career

Tai Chu Wei (or "Tai" as he prefers to be called) holds the degree of Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of London, which he secured in 1998, and a Certificate in Legal Practice from the Malaysian  Qualifying Board.  He was called to the Bar in 2000 and was made a partner of the firm in 2006.

Tai is a corporate mergers specialist and has been involved in many highly intensive corporate deals, often advising Malaysian and foreign clients (including multi-national corporations) on domestic/cross-border mergers & acquisitions in their various permutations and corporate and commercial transactions.  Notable projects were in acting as Malaysian counsel to German conglomerate Bayer in its USD62.5 billion acquisition of US-based Monsanto and advising on the divestiture of the Elanco animal health business from the Eli Lilly corporate group.  Tai has worked on the floatation of companies on Malaysian and overseas stock exchanges, takeovers, privatisations, corporate finance transactions and debt and secondary equity raisings.

Formerly appointed as a panel interviewer and industry coach for the Ministry of Finance's Cradle Fund GoIPO Coach and Grow Programme for small and medium enterprises and industries, Tai has been ranked by the IFLR1000 (International Financial Law Review) as a Highly Regarded Lawyer (formerly called “Leading Lawyer”) in the area of Capital Markets for 2011 – 2023 and in the area of Mergers & Acquisitions for 2017 - 2023.   He has also been named as a Leading Lawyer by asialaw. Tai has been described by a client as being “responsive, technically sound and commercially oriented.”
