SyCipLaw Announces New Corporate Services Department Head

SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Imelda A. Manguiat, a senior partner of the firm, as the new head of its Corporate Services (CS) Department, effective on June 1, 2021.

Ms. Manguiat will succeed Mr. Simeon Ken R. Ferrer as department head following Mr. Ferrer’s retirement as a senior partner at the end of May 2021. Mr. Ferrer will be of counsel of the firm starting June 1, 2021.

The firm's CS Department provides a full range of services for corporates, from establishing and maintaining corporate vehicles suitable to the unique elements of each commercial venture, to adapting to, and reorganizing due to, changes in laws and regulations.  Lawyers in SyCipLaw’s CS Department have the experience and systems for servicing special types of corporates such as public companies, companies possessing secondary licenses or registrations, and non-stock non-profit corporations including educational institutions and foundations.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Ms. Manguiat is an expert in foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, energy, infrastructure, and government contracts. Her projects cover various industries, including telecommunications, real property development, and manufacturing. She was involved in numerous major infrastructure and power projects in the Philippines, such as the MRT 3 rail transit system, the 1200 MW Ilijan natural gas power plant and the 200 MW Cebu coal-fired power plant.

Ms. Manguiat serves as director or corporate secretary for a number of companies in the Philippines. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Ms. Manguiat’s predecessor as CS Department head is Mr. Ferrer, who headed the department from December 1, 2014. Mr. Ferrer is one the leading banking and finance lawyers in the Philippines, and has been cited by IFLR and The Legal 500 for his expertise in these fields. He is corporate secretary of several publicly listed companies in the Philippines and is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
