Career
Mr. Fanning is an Australian barrister and solicitor (with an Unrestricted Practising Certificate), who transferred from Australia’s Clayton Utz to HHR Lawyers in 1997. He provides a line of communication for foreign clients from various countries, as well as advises and assists them in matters of the Indonesian legal system. In addition, he also advises Indonesian clients.
Mr. Fanning practices in the Commercial and Corporate areas, especially in matters involving foreign investment. He also provides legal advice water resources, oil & gas, mining, construction, insurance, air transport, industrial relations and dispute resolution and he is also the Team Leader of the Energy and Natural Resources practice group.
He is recognized by Legal 500 Asia Pacific as Indonesia’s Leading Individual for Corporate and M&A Practice in 2018, 2019 and 2020, also as Recommended Lawyer in Shipping. Vantage Asia also recognized him as one of Indonesia’s Top 100 Lawyers (The A-List).
Mr. Fanning regularly lectures at university level, and from time to time within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and writes on legal topics of interest to investors. He is an accredited arbitrator and mediator, who is a member of LawAsia and the Australian Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators.
As a Vice President of the Indonesia Australia Business Council and Chairman of the International Business Chamber, Mr. Fanning has been active in assisting the Indonesian government in policy formation and reform, especially in areas of legal reform.
He contributed monthly articles on construction and industrial relations issues over many years to the Master Builders Association Journal, and currently writes articles on legal and business matters for the Newsletter of the Indonesian Australia Business Council, of which he is the editor.
