Career

Raphaël Gauvain is a partner within the ethics, investigations, defence practice in the Paris office of Stephenson Harwood.

Raphaël has been admitted to the Paris Bar in 2001 and is a former member of the French parliament (2017-2022).His practice focuses on litigation, primarily criminal defense, internal investigations and compliance. He is also very active in public affairs and in relation with public authorities.

As a member of the Parliament, he has been particularly active on issues related to economic sovereignty and boosting French economic competitiveness. He has spearheaded the French bill on Trade Secret protection (2018), has been at the forefront of a report to the Prime Minister on issues in relation to extraterritorial legislation (2019), an information report on the effectiveness of the Sapin II Law (2021), as well as bills on whistleblowers and strengthening of French anti-corruption system.

Raphael has extensive and insider experience of the political and legal issues involved in the assessments by international organisations of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering plans of states.

Raphaël is also involved in public affairs, advising economic players in navigating the legislative, regulatory and political framework in which they operate.

He was First Secretary of the Conference in 2005. Prior to his mandate as a Member of Parliament, he founded and managed a French law firm specializing in litigation.
