Career

C J KIM is a founding partner of CHOI & KIM, the largest maritime law firm in Korea. He has been actively involved in a full range of maritime, insurance/reinsurance and aviation practice for 30 years. He also has handled various cross-border commercial litigations and arbitration in addition to general maritime law cases. He has acted for major P&I Clubs, international shipping companies and insurance/reinsurance companies. He is also advising the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund in the Hebei Sprit case which is the most significant oil spill case in the Korean history.

Memberships

He is the chairman of the Korean Insurance Law Association (2015) and a vice chairman of the Korean Maritime Law Association (2008-2015). He serves as an arbitrator for the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (1993-2015) and mediation commissioner for the Seoul High Court (2007-2015). He also has acted as a member of the Special Committee for the Modernization of Korean Commercial Code (2011-2013), which was sponsored by the Ministry of Justice of Korea.

Education

He received his LL.B. from Seoul National University (1978) and LL.M. from Kyunghee University (1999). He has a Ph. D. in law from Kyunghee University (2004).
