Career

Sang-Yong Lee has 30 years of in-depth experience working within the intellectual property protection area. Specifically, he has served as a trademark examiner in the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and as a trial examiner for trademark and design disputes on the Korean Patent Tribunal. During his position as an examiner he attended the professional training program at Mark & Clerk in the UK in 1994 and was further appointed as a Patent Attaché of the Korean Representative to the European Union in 2002. In 2009, Mr. Lee was named as a director of the Research and Analysis Division at the Korean Institute of Patent Information, an affiliated public institute of KIPO, where his sophisticated knowledge was instrumental in leading the division to provide effective prior art searches and IPC headings both for the public and private sectors. He was also elected to the position of Secretary General of the Korean Patent Attorneys Association (KPAA) in 2012, where he was actively involved in coordinating a number of plans and projects for supporting KPAA committees and institutes outside the Association. Mr. Lee is a partner in our firm and takes overall responsibility for all trademark and design matters including prosecution, management, defense, litigation, opposition, and cancellation proceedings.
