Azmi & Associates’ Co-Deputy Managing Partner Appointed as an AIAC Advisory Council Member

Azmi & Associates is pleased to announce that our Co-Deputy Managing Partner, YM Raja Dato’ Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan has been appointed as a member of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) Advisory Council for a two-year term, effective 1 April 2021.

The Government had agreed to appoint a 13-member advisory council for the AIAC, led by former Chief Justice, YABhg. Tun Arifin Zakaria and other selected members, including Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, former Federal Court judges Tan Sri Sulong Matjeraie and Datuk Dr. Prasad Sandosham Abraham, lawyers Dato’ Nitin Nadkarni, Dr. Wafi Nazrin Dr Abdul Hamid, Ms. Tan Swee Im, Professor Doug Jones AO (Australia), Dr. Hassan Arab (United Arab Emirates), Ms. Monica Feria Tinta (the United Kingdom), Mr. Khawar Qureshi Queen’s Counsel (the United Kingdom), and Mr. Vyapak Desai (India).

The Advisory Council members are tasked with shaping strategies and action plans to strengthen the AIAC, increase its activities and assist its director, Tan Sri Datuk Suriyadi Halim Omar. The selection of local and foreign members of the council was made based on their skills and experiences in the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) industry in their own countries.

YM Raja Dato’ Ahmad has been with Azmi & Associates for over 15 years, since January 2004, climbing the ranks with his dedication and commitment to his work and the Firm. YM Dato’ was elevated as a Partner in October 2006 and was subsequently made the firm’s Co-Deputy Managing Partner in July 2012.

YM Dato’ has been involved in many notable litigation and dispute resolution assignments, including providing strategic legal inputs to our clients. Amongst YM Raja Dato Ahmad’s success was overturning award damages for breach of contract which exceeded RM1.2 billion.

With this appointment, Azmi & Associates hopes that YM Dato’ will contribute to AIAC with his knowledge and experience in the areas of dispute resolution and arbitration.
