Career

Izral read law at King’s College London after winning a scholarship from the Malaysian Government. He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1997.

Izral was previously a partner in Messrs. Shearn Delamore & Co. and Messrs. Logan Sabapathy & Co. before co-founding Izral Partnership in 2008 with Tharminder Singh & Wong Guo Bin.

He regularly acts for various high profile individuals and leading corporations in relation to various types of contentious matters, in particular, fraud-related ones involving breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty, fraudulent misrepresentation, and conspiracy to defraud.

Izral has a natural knack for investigative litigation works. Izral has since been able to bring that knack to a higher level through his years of experience in handling fraud-related briefs.

Given that, he plays a central role in the firm’s prominent investigative briefs, including one in which he represented heirs of a late well-known Malaysian tycoon in disputes relating to family trusts created in their favour as well as their inheritance, dealing with fraudulent allegations. The legal saga involved countless numbers of legal proceedings in which there were complex applications made by the heirs for, amongst others, search & seizure orders, disclosure of trust deed, and appointment of a receiver and manager over a trust.

He is also presently representing a public listed oil & gas corporation in a high stake & highly technical shareholders’ dispute which revolves around a multi-million dollar FPSO vessel. The dispute also features a counterclaim by the said corporation against its co-shareholders for fraudulent misrepresentation, negligence, breach of fiduciary duties, and conspiracy to defraud.

Quite apart, he is also known to be an excellent advocate in court. He has led many contentious applications where he successfully obtained inter alia an Anton Piller order against a high profile trustee company, and an Erinford injunction & Variation order against a renowned Malaysian financial institution.

Izral also has an extensive experience on the alternative dispute resolution front. He most recently acted for a wholly-owned subsidiary of a renowned UK-listed coach building company in a multi-million dollar arbitration proceeding against a Malaysian government-linked corporation wholly owned by the Ministry of Finance under the auspices of the Asian International Arbitration Centre (formerly known as the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration).

The Legal 500 (Asia Pacific) described Izral as not just a “fraud expert”, but also “a highly skillful litigator and very commercially aware”. Amongst his peers, he is frequently described as a “tenacious litigator”.

Outside of work, Izral is an advocacy trainer with the Malaysian Bar, regularly training young practitioners to improve their courtroom advocacy skills. He is also often appointed into the Disciplinary Committee by the Advocates & Solicitors Disciplinary Board.
