Career

Yvette is an experienced litigator who advises and represents clients in a broad range of disputes including multi-jurisdictional corporate and commercial litigation, regulatory compliance and investigations, technology and media law, consumer protection and product safety complaints, and employment and discrimination claims.

Among her case highlights:

Acted in the first race discrimination claim in Hong Kong and successfully struck out the claim summarily despite the extremely high threshold to do so against a litigant in person. Acted for a telecommunications operator in a trademark infringement litigation which set Hong Kong’s first case precedent on comparative advertising. Acted for a group of corporate defendants in multi-jurisdictional proceedings involving fraud, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of trust claims in parallel proceedings including at the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal and the Privy Council. Acted for an ultra-high net worth owner of a real estate enterprise in his successful defence of a 10-year multi-party dispute arising from the enforcement of a CIETAC arbitral award involving PRC land development contracts, which included a 22-day trial at the Court of First Instance, multiple interlocutory and leave hearings, through to the Court of Final Appeal.

On the regulatory side, Yvette has advised clients in investigations conducted by the Competition Commission, the Communications Authority, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in Hong Kong, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the European Securities and Markets Authority in Europe and the Financial Conduct Authority in United Kingdom.

Yvette acted in the first enforcement proceedings commenced by the Hong Kong Competition Commission (CTEA 1/2017), which set important precedents for subsequent enforcement proceedings at the Competition Tribunal, including the use of confidentiality rings, the applicability of the hearsay rule, the standard and scope of the Commissioner’s discovery obligations, public interest immunity, and the standard of proof applicable to Tribunal proceedings.

Over the years, Yvette has advised clients across a broad spectrum of sectors including telecoms, IT, real estate, luxury and retail, and financial services.

Before joining Hill Dickinson Hong Kong as a Partner in 2021, Yvette was a Special Counsel with Baker McKenzie, having spent time in both the Hong Kong and London offices. She qualified in Hong Kong in 2007 and is among the earliest to qualify as a solicitor advocate in 2015, which enables her to appear before all levels of Hong Kong courts as an advocate in civil proceedings.
