James is an experienced and hands-on practitioner who has extensive knowledge of maritime law. He is well-experienced in handling marine casualties including collision, grounding, oil pollution, salvage and wreck removal and maritime commercial claims arising from cargo transport, shipbuilding, ship sale and purchase, shipping investment and policy and his practice includes both “wet” and “dry” matters.

James is an outstanding Chinese maritime law expert and shares experience as a draftsmen of the Chinese Maritime Code, the Chinese Port Law, Chinese Shipping Law and various shipping regulations. He was a member of the Chinese delegation to UNCITRAL Working Group in formulating the Rotterdam Rules. He also balances his practice with his academic commitments as a professor previously at Dalian Maritime University and now at Shanghai Maritime University. He is an arbitrator of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission.
