Mark is an experienced commercial lawyer with a broad range of expertise advising clients in connection with commercial contract and trading matters.

Over the past 15 years he has advised a wide variety of clients, providing pragmatic, commercially-focused legal advice to clients at all times.

Mark has particular experience in the energy, utilities, chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors and has a long track record of advising clients on major commercial contracts and project matters.

He is recognised as a leading lawyer in his field and regularly presents on legal issues affecting the energy, and process sectors.

Mark’s clients have included major multi-national organisations in the energy and process industry sectors, smaller project development businesses, fast growth technology companies and a variety of debt and equity funders.

During his career he has advised clients including GDF Suez Energy, Barclays, Lloyds, Iona Capital, Carillion, Northern Powergrid, Mitsubishi Chemicals, SABIC, Croda, Akzo Nobel, and Ineos.

He advises a variety of businesses operating at various levels across the energy supply chain, including electricity generators and distributors, power and gas traders, plant operators and contractors, project developers and funders and major electricity users.

In the renewables sector, his experience includes advising several project developers in connection with schemes in the wind, solar PV, AD biogas, landfill gas, biomass and energy from waste fields, as well as advising the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec) on a range of ETI financed renewable energy testing development projects.

In the conventional energy sector, Mark advises clients dealing with regulated electricity and gas matters, including gas trading agreements and electricity licence matters, maintenance and outsourcing arrangements.

He has been involved with some of the largest energy projects in the North of England, comprising approximately 3GW of energy plant development, across gas, wind, solar and EfW projects.

In the process sector, Mark’s advice covers issues including manufacturing and trading arrangements, research and development agreements, logistics arrangements, and process technology agreements.
